Christmas Masquerade

A musical tale set in an Edwardian stately home.  After an improper liaison between a member of the aristocracy and someone from the downstairs staff, one of the lovers is forced into exile.  After travelling through Europe  - and the Arabian desert – they return home to a colourful masked ball.   The drama provides a wonderful showcase for well-loved music from composers such as Strauss, Lehar, and Romberg, as well as festive favourites.   A feel-good Christmas extravaganza for all the family.

The Mikado is one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most well-known works, satirising Victorian Britain’s politics and aristocracy, cleverly disguised by its setting in exotic Japan.  It is a tangled web of intrigue, false identities,  thwarted love and marriage, with the ever-present threat of execution hanging over all those involved.  The result is a complex parody with memorable tunes, witty dialogue and colourful costumes.
